Gaithersburg’s Jingle Jubilee Lights Up Holiday Season

92nd Anniversary of Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

Gaithersburg, MD  (November 19, 2018) Welcome the holidays with a traditional tree lighting ceremony, holiday music and a special visit from Santa at Gaithersburg’s Jingle Jubilee. This year marks the 92nd anniversary of the tree lighting ceremony. The festivities take place at the City Hall Concert Pavilion in Olde Towne on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

This joyous event, perfect for families with young children, features performances by Impact Dance Studio, DL Dance Project, Gaithersburg High School Band, Pritchard Music Powerhouse Brass, and South Lake Elementary School 5th Grade Chorus.

Children will delight in meeting Santa, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Elmo, and Cookie Monster. Be sure to bring your camera to capture memorable holiday photos with the costumed characters and in a fun photo booth that includes dress-up accessories and props. Festive giveaways, holiday card signing for our troops, and a magnificent tree lighting ceremony create a delightful holiday mood.

To keep things toasty at Jingle Jubilee, you can purchase hot chocolate from the Gaithersburg Student Union. Food will also be available for sale.

To support homeless veterans in Montgomery County, Gaithersburg’s Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), now part of Post 2562 in Silver Spring, has partnered with the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless (MCCH), which provides emergency shelter to an average of 75 veterans annually. MCCH’s Operation Homecoming provides homeless Veterans with a safe, stable and affordable place to live. Donations, including food, toiletries and cleaning supplies, are being collected to assist Veterans with their move. A complete list is available on the City’s website. Donations can be dropped off during the Jingle Jubilee event. Monetary donations are also being accepted. Checks can be written to the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless.

For more information about drop-offs, tax deductible receipts, and the MCCH program, call 301-917-6644. Questions about the VFW and its involvement in this program should be directed to Martha Toquinto at mommaofamarine@yahoo.com.

The City Hall Concert Pavilion is located at 31 South Summit Avenue.  Be sure to dress warmly for this winter wonderland. Please note that should the event be cancelled due to inclement weather, the tree lighting only will take place on Monday, December 3 at 7 p.m. For more information call 301-258-6350 or visit www.gaithersburgmd.gov.
